A pointless plaque

Take a look at this plaque which recently made an appearance in my district, St Paul’s Bay. After you are left breathless reading through the long list of names, try to recall what that tablet is supposed to commemorate.

Actually it doesn’t even say. We are only informed that, “This place was inaugurated by …”. That some outdoor fitness equipment was installed in the area is completely overlooked. Clearly, the people involved were more concerned that their names be “commemorated”. Or remembered, seeing that the 8th of April was just 3 days before the Local Council elections.

Eight days after those elections, the plaque is still there but the fitness equipment is already disappearing. If only it were the other way round!
